The doctor goes over what happened again, checking to see how much Aaron remembers. Which, other than when he was out, is everything. He does a few other tests to check his memory, vision, balance, speech, and coordination.

Thankfully, he passes with flying colors, and I breathe a huge sigh of relief.

The doctor hands us a paper with a list of things to watch out for, telling us to come back right away if any of that happens so they can monitor him and give him a CT scan. Which makes me nervous all over again.

As the doctor walks out, Aaron reaches over and squeezes my hand. “I’m okay. My headache is fading. It probably just surprised my brain, and it needed a little rest,” he teases.

I smack his arm, but then give him a tight squeeze. “You can’t blame me for being worried. How would you have felt if it had been me?”

His shimmering brown eyes lock on mine, filled with tenderness and love. “I would have been terrified.”

“You’re my person, Ace. I can’t lose you,” I whisper.

“You will never lose me. We die together, like the old couple in Titanic.”

I grimace. “Hopefully not exactly like that.”

He chuckles, then kisses my nose. “You’re so fuckin’ cute.”

He swings his legs to the side of the bed and pulls me against him. I dip my head down and brush my lips against his. “You’re not so bad yourself.”

He nods, wrapping his hand around the back of my head and pulling our mouths together.

This should not be sexy. Nothing about the ER should be sexy. But that doesn’t stop me from losing myself in his kisses. It doesn’t stop me from wondering if I have time to push him back on the bed, climb on top of him and—

“Mr. Cooper?”

We rip our faces apart as a nurse walks in with paperwork in hand.

She smiles knowingly at us. “It’s good to see two young people so in love. Anyway, I have your discharge papers here. I’ve marked where you need to sign.” She slides the paper and a pen to Aaron, who signs in a few spots. Then she hands me some paperwork. “This is the list of symptoms to watch for. It’s good you came in to be evaluated. A lot of people don’t take these things seriously.”

I shoot Aaron an I-told-you-so look.

The nurse looks at me. “He shouldn’t be alone for a long period for the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours.”

“I won’t let him out of my sight,” I say, eyes locked on him. My stomach twists with desire. Again, I should not be so turned on here.

“And you should take it easy for a couple of days,” the nurse instructs.

Aaron hams it up and looks at me with big eyes. “Does that mean you’re gonna wait on me hand and foot?”

I shake my head but play along, twisting my fingers through a few tendrils of his hair. “Of course.”

“All right, you’re all set with us. You can get dressed and head out.
